The University of Ibadan (UI) brand continues to shine as one of its own; Prof. Nelson Mobolanle Oyesiku, a graduate of the College of Medicine, UI becomes elected as the President of World Federation of Neurological Societies.
Born in Nigeria, Prof. Oyesiku attended the University of Ibadan, Ibadan from where he obtained an MB.BS degree in Medicine in 1979. After his first degree, he proceeded to the University of London as a Commonwealth scholar to obtain a Master of Science degree, following which he was admitted for the Neuroscience graduate program at Emory University, Atlanta, from where he obtained a Ph.D.
Having completed the Neuroscience graduate programme at Emory University, he was appointed to the Neurosurgical faculty of the University, starting off his outstanding career as a Neurosurgeon.
Since the inception of his career, Prof. Oyesiku has continued to distinguish himself both locally and internationally, which has earned him several awards and accolades. Some of his Awards include the NIH CIDA Award and the Medical Faculty Award from the Robert Woods Foundation as well as the NIH ROI Award for the Molecular imaging and targeting of pituitary tumors.
He has also authored several manuscripts, book chapters and a book in the field of Neurosurgery and science and served in various committees in Emory University, Emory Clinic, Emory Hospital while also State and Regional Committees.
Prior to his election as the President of World Federation of Neurological societies, Prof. Oyesiku has held various positions among his professional colleagues and in Professional Association and societies (both local and international) and served in various capacities, excelling in all.
He has served as the Vice President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons; He is the Secretary/Treasurer of Georgia’s Neurosurgical society and the President-Elect of Georgia’s Neurosurgical Society.
Prof. Oyesiku has been selected as one of the best Doctors in America by his peers also as one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumer Research, Council of America.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is named in Marquis who’s who in America.
