The Oyo State Governor elect, Engr. Abiodun Oluwaseyi Makinde has donated the sum of N25 million to the University of Ibadan towards the rehabilitation of facilities affected by recent rainstorm in the University of Ibadan during the recent heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in the city of Ibadan. The N25 million cheque was presented during a courtesy call by Engr. Seyi Makinde to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS, on Friday 15 March, 2019. Engr. Makinde stated that his was a “Thank you” visit for the immense support he enjoyed from the University Community, and to appreciate the credible role UI staff played in the conduct of the recent elections in Oyo State. He explained that he also came to solidarise with UI, as he could not but notice the extent of the damage caused by rain on the University campus, and hoped that his N25 million widow’s mite would go a long way in alleviating the effect of the damages on the campus. He further expressed his willingness to collaborate with UI in order to enhance development in Oyo State. The Vice Chancellor in his response appreciated Engr. Seyi Makinde’s gesture and prompt response, especially as it was coming barely 6 days after his election. He congratulated him on his recent success at the polls, and the overwhelming support he received from the people of Oyo State, enjoining that he keeps up with his good works, so that he will continue to enjoy acceptability by the people. While wishing him a successful tenure, the Vice Chancellor expressed optimism that the University will continue to enjoy the cordial relationship it has with its immediate environment during his tenure, just like it did during the tenure of the outgoing administration. With the Governor-Elect on the visit were, the Oyo State PDP Chairman Chief Omokunmi Mustapha, Director of Media (Campaign Team), Prince Dotun Oyelade, Director, Protocol, Hon Adejumo Ademola, Deputy Director Protocol, Alhaji Hakeem Oladeji, former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola and a former Commissioner for Education in Oyo State, Dr. Nureni Adeniran among others. Also in attendance at the courtesy visit were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. K.O. Adebowale, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics). Prof. A.B. Ekanola, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership), Prof. Olanike K. Adeyemo, Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi O.
