HONOUR AND DISTINCTION

30/01/2019

We are delighted to report that our own Professor Isaac Olawale Albert made the final list of West Africa Peacebuilding Fellows. Professor Albert is of the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. The body of fellows is made up of 20 West Africans who have distinguished themselves in peace practice and whose work transcend their immediate countries to at least five West African states. It requires a minimum of 20 years experience and other stringent measures. The beauty of the fellowship is that the nominees are not aware of the process and yet must receive endorsement from at least five West African states with evidence of their work and impact in those countries. The inauguration will be in Accra on 26 March 2019 and will be performed by the President of ECOWAS Commission and President of Ghana. Professor Isaac O. Albert is a specialist in social history, conflict analysis and peace process planning. He initiated the academic link that led to the establishment of the highly regarded Peace and Conflict Studies Program of the University of Ibadan in 2000. He similarly helped in the establishment of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies at the University of Ilorin. He won the Africa Peace Education Prize of the California State University, Sacramento, USA. In his response to this new award, Professor Albert who has previous served as the Director, Institute of African Studies at the University of Ibadan, he said "the regional peace fellowship came to me as a surprise but it is said to be in appreciation of my modest contribution to peace scholarship and practice in the West Africa region. I owe it all to the University of Ibadan that provided me the platform for reaching out to the rest of Africa". With a deep sense of fulfilment and pride, we congratulate the Pioneer Director of IPSS, and wish him good health, long life and prosperity.
