UI PRODUCTS CONTINUE TO TAKE GIANT STRIDES GLOBALLY - ACTING VC
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Adebola Babatunde Ekanola has expressed his great pleasure as UI Alumni continue to make great impact and take giant strides globally.
He made this known while receiving the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Prof. Umar Babagana Zulum on a courtesy visit recently.
Prof. Ekanola, who welcomed the Governor warmly in his office, expressed his delight at having such an illustrious and prominent alumnus back in the University. He stated that UI is ever proud of the Governor and the impact he is making, both in Politics, and as the sitting Governor of Borno State. The acting Vice-Chancellor further affirmed that UI will also continue to make its graduates proud by striving for excellence and maintain its pride of place in global knowledge economy as evident in its ranking as the best University in Nigeria and the Sub-Region, the seventh in African and one of the top 500 Universities in the world.
Prof. Ekanola appreciated the Governor for honouring the University by accepting the UI Alumni Association’s (UIAA) invitation as well as bringing an array of prominent personalities along with him, whom according to the Acting VC, UI would henceforth adopt as friends.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the UIAA for making the visit by the Governor happen within a short period of time.
His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum who was in the University to receive an award of Most Distinguished Alumnus proffered on him by the Alumni Association, could not hide his excitement at being back in his alma mater, from where he bagged an M.A in Agricultural Engineering in 1998.
He was particularly happy at the recognition given him by the University through the UIAA. He appreciated the University for the training and mentoring he received while still a student, which according to him, did go a long way in preparing him for the leadership role which he now holds. He promised to continue to partner with the institution and give it every support within his power.
On Governor Zulum’s entourage were Governor Abdurahman Abdulrazak of Kwara State, and the three serving senators from Borno State Senator Kashim Shetimma, Senator Alli Ndume, including Senator Abubakar Kyari. Others were Honourable (Dr.) Zainab Gimbar, (member, house of Representatives), Speaker, Borno State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Abdu-Kareem, members, State House of Assembly, Traditional and religious leaders from Borno state among others.
Also present to receive the guest with the Acting Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Kayode Adebowale FAS, Acting Bursar, Mr. Olayiwola Abimbola Akanbi, President, UIAA, Prof. Elsie Adewoye, represented by the immediate past President, UIAA, Dr. Kemi Emina, Director, University Advancement Centre, Mr. A.A. Adeosun, Director, Directorate of Public Communication, Mr. O.M. Oladejo and Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Oluwole Dada among others.
