The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel, Idowu Olayinka FAS, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (CON), to explore the possibility of intellectual collaborations between the University of Ibadan and the Yinka Ayoola Institute on 20 February, 2019. The Yinka Ayoola Institute was established by Hon. Justice Yinka Ayoola as a learning Institute with one of its features being the Temidire Camp which is located in a serene environment and has facilities that can enhance academic/intellectual exercise and achievements. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss possible ways by which both the University and the Institute can benefit maximally from a mutual collaboration, some of which include the conduct of seminars, general and personal retreats and conferences at the Temidire Camp by the University and development of Hon. Ayoola’s memoir among others. The highlight of the visit was the agreement by both parties to conduct an interactive roundtable in which Hon. Ayoola would be able to share his wealth of experience in the legal field with the University community, while also proferring ways forward to the myriad of corruption issues plaguing the nation. Hon. Emmanuel Ayoola was born in Ilesha, Osun State in 1933. He passed the Bachelor of Laws Examination of the University of London in 1957 and a B.A. in jurisprudence Examination of Oxford University in 1959. He was called to the English Board Lincoln’s Inn in 1957 and was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor of the supreme court of Nigeria in 1959. After a 17-year stint in private legal practice, Hon. Ayoola was appointed a judge of the High Court of western Nigeria. He served as Justice of the Court of Appeal from 1980-1983 and was later made Chief Justice of the Gambia (1983-1992) Hon Ayoola was also president of the Court of Appeal of Seychelles and Justice of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria (1992-1998). In 1988, he became the Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a position he held until 2003 when he retired from the Civil Service. In 2005, Hon Ayoola was appointed Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) for a 5-year term. Currently, he is a member of the National Judicial Council and Chairman of the Judicial Performance Evaluation Committee of the Council.
