As part of its 73rd Convocation ceremonies, the University of Ibadan has conferred 4,147 candidates with Higher degrees, marking the second day of the convocation ceremonies. The Higher degrees include Master of Philosophy, Academic Masters, Professional Masters and Postgraduate Diplomas. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K. O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, in his address affirmed that the degrees being awarded is a clear attestation to the quality, competence and worth in learning and character of the recipients. Prof. Adebowale lauded the Postgraduate College for having consistently maintained an unparalleled level of excellence in postgraduate education and research in Nigeria and beyond, thus graduating the Highest level of the best crop of academic manpower in Nigeria and West Africa. He stated that many of the graduands were already distinguishing themselves internationally while still on the programme, winning grants and publishing in high impact journals. The Erudite Scholar commended all the students for successfully acquiring higher degrees and charged them to go forth and prove the worth of their degrees in their daily display of learning and character. He affirmed that the worth of a University degree is in the industry, learning and character that the holder of that degree displays on a daily basis from the moment of obtaining the degree. He ended his address by charging the graduands to live up to the expectation of defending the reputation of the University of Ibadan in words and in action, in all their future endeavours.
