WE WILL CARRY OUT OUR ASSIGNMENT IN UI DISPASSIONATELY, FAIRLY AND WITH ALL THE SERIOUSNESS IT REQUIRES – PRESIDENTIAL VISITATION PANEL.
The Presidential Visitation Panel to the University of Ibadan, arrived the University with an assurance to carry out its assignment dispassionately, fairly and with all the seriousness that it requires.
This assurance was made by the Chairman of the Panel and former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega on behalf of other members of the panel during a courtesy call on the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Adebola, Babatunde Ekanola, FAS recently, on their arrival at the University.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Jega appreciated the Acting VC and other members of the University community on the warm reception accorded to them on their arrival. He stated that the Visitation Panel is in the university in accordance with the terms of reference of the Panel as spelt out by the Visitor to the University, President Muhammadu Buhari.
Acknowledging that the process of carrying out their task will require interaction with management, staff, students and other members of the University as well as visitation to facilities within the University, the former Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University Kano corrected the impression that the Visitation Panel was out to witch hunt. In his words: “we want to appreciate the challenges confronting the University in the last 10 years and make appropriate recommendations. He therefore solicited the co-operation of all members of the University Community in the discharge of the Panel’s responsibilities.
Responding, the Acting Vice Chancellor expressed the pleasure of the University community to have the 2021 Presidential visitation panel in the University. He commended the calibre of people on the panel, stating that they are people of great pedigree. He expressed the confidence and optimism that with a Chairman who has an intricate understanding of how the University runs, having been a former Vice Chancellor, and a President of ASUU, the Panel will do an outstanding job of their task and come out with recommendations for the betterment of the University.
Acknowledging that the Chairman is not a stranger to the University, having delivered the Advancement Lecture and the Convocation lecture of the University in the past, he welcomed all members of the panel warmly and pledged the total commitment and cooperation of the University community towards ensuring a conducive environment for the panel to work.
The Visitation Panel has since met with the University Senate and Congregation. Members of the Panel were also at the Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan.
Members of the Panel who would be visiting until II June ,2021 include the Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, Prof Ken Nwogu, Prof Mamman A. Lawan, SAN, Prof. Kabir Tahir (CNA), Dr. Tunde Olokun Esq, Arc. Ayodeji Kolawole, and Secretary, Barrister S.S. Adejoh.
Present to receive the Panel with the Acting VC were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, FAS, the Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi O. Faluyi, the Acting Bursar, Mr Abimbola Olayiwola Akanbi,the University Librarian, Dr Helen Komolafe-Opadeji, Director, University Advancement Centre Mr Adebowale Adeosun, Director, Directorate of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Mohammed Oladejo, Deputy Registrar (HR&D), Mr Ibukun Akinbola, Deputy Registrar (VC’s office), Mr Oluwole Dada among others.
