ACTING UI V.C. RECEIVES WORLD BANK EDUCATION SPECIALIST IN NIGERIA ON A COURTESY VISIT
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. A.B. Ekanola received the World Bank Education Specialist in Nigeria, Dr. Tunde Adekola on a courtesy visit recently.
Dr. Adekola, who was in the University as a Keynote speaker at the 7th International Conference of the Insitute of Education, expressed his delight at the opportunity to be of service to the University of Ibadan.
The World Bank specialist who was in Oyo state to address the lapses among in -school and out-of-school children in the state, stated that the opportunity could not have come at a better time to partner with the Institution.
Dr. Adekola stated that the Wolrd bank seeks to partner with the Federal government to empower Universities to provide services and to reposition such Universities as service providers that should be paid for services rendered. This, he stated, the World Bank hopes to achieve by strengthening the University system and its consultancy units, as well as strengthening the collaboration between the University and Private sector.
Responding, the Acting Vice Chancellor appreciated Dr. Adekola for the visit, expressing great joy at the interest of the World Bank to work with the University, and affirming the interest of the University to also partner with the Bank.
Agreeing with the World Bank on the need to reposition Universities as Service Providers, Prof. Ekanola stated: “If we get our acts right, Funds will flow in and the Private Sector will appreciate that we have special Services and come seeking such services”.
Prof. Ekanola affirmed his belief that the keynote address to be delivered by Dr. Adekola at the International Conference of the Institute of Education would not only be fruitful and engaging, but would also give a sense of direction in terms of the ways forward.
The Acting V.C. expressed great optimism that the World bank and the University would have a higher and better interaction, as well as a sustainable relationship between them.
Present to receive the World Bank specialist with the Acting V.C. were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof Kayode Adebowale, the Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi O. Faluyi. Librarian, Dr. Helen Komolafe-Opadeji, the Dean of students, Prof. A. Abiona, others were staff of the Institute of Education, including the Dean, Prof J.G. Adewale, the Faculty Officer, Mrs Adejoke Akinpelu, and other faculty and members. The Director, University Advancement Centre, Mr. A.A Adeosun, the Deputy Registrar, VC’s office, Mr Oluwole Dada among others who also honored the event with their presence.
